The Last Fitzcarraldo travel....

Kkaus Kinsky in Werner Herzog's film

THE IDEA

Patrocinio is a small town in the Southeast of Brazil, in Minas Gerais state. Especially when it comes to movie theaters, the city (as all small towns in Brazil) lacks this kind of facility. With that in mind, a small group of people in different areas would like to create a different non-standard theater to be offered to these people, with non-profit films. At the same time, this city has an unused public space that could - with just a few interferences, fit a movie theater like that as a pair of gloves! This space was remodeled into a city market, but it has been going through many difficulties. Originally, this market was built at the same place, it was a one-story building with no specific architectural style. After this remodelling, the building got a "new" neoclassic style.

A ramp was built connecting the two floors making it a double space, exactly like a mezzanino, or better, like a foyer.

Inside the empty public space, which is not used by the stores, could be used to hold a small movie theater.

SMALL MOVIE THEATERS IN BRAZIL - THE CINECLUBE

The "cineclube" was the way that wiewers of public and private associations created to make small movie theaters in the countryside of Brazil since the beginning of the last century.

The final cost of the filme copy in Brazil made it more expensive, so the solution was to create an association of viewers who paid a monthly tuition and had a quota of that association.

"The Brazilian experience followed this pattern, with the presence of the cineclubes of the 20s, the foundation of the Brazilian Cinematheque, in São Paulo, in the 50s, followed by the creation of MAM (Modern Art Museum) of Rio the Janeiro. The universities come to the cinema after the museums and, inside them, the students come before their Schools. This is the case of "Cinema Clube" created in the Philophy, Science and Arts and Literature, in 1940, as a studies and discussion center, in the forming spirit that marked such initiatives since the muted movies." - PAULO EMILIO SALES GOMES - THE CINEMA STUDIE - REVISTA ESTUDOS AVANÇADOS - UNIVERSITY OF SÃO PAULO

Rebuilding Parque da Matinha

Parque da Matinha - Sports and Culture Center
Patrocinio – Minas Gerais – Brazil

CONCEPTION HISTORY

Parque da Matinha was founded by a Municipal Law (1.488/79.O) on 06/13/1979 while Silas Brasileiro was the mayor. He could foresee the area as a park for the Matinha community (a needy neighborhood in the city). It was only then that any interventions of this kind were made in the area: a gym and a small public health center were built inside the park for the entertainment of its visitors as well as a paved pathway that takes the visitors from the park's entrance located on Dr. Vicente Soares Street to a small artificially-built lake filled by a spring located in the middle of the park.
The park has since then been abandoned.

GOALS

To preserve, to reforest and to revitalize the park area through the new proposed uses;
To make a common space with enough infrastructure for the practice of sports, leisure and cultural activities viable for the community as a whole (all this, through partnerships and by respecting the environment, so that the park becomes, in a near future, an Autonomous Foundation able to manage its own destiny);
To transform the park into a propagator of educational, cultural and environmental preservation of the city – buildings with this purpose, such as six classrooms for ecological learning (from elementary to high school) will be built as well as a unity of environmental preservation that will join professionals involved in the matter, such as biologists, vets and the forest police;
In the cultural area, which is directly linked to education and citizenship formation, there will be a building of multiple uses for multimedia terminals, a movie theater as well as a space for theatrical and musical performances.

DIRECT BENEFITS FOR THE TOWN

Requalification of the Environmental Education in the town;

Adequacy of the facilities for the National Forest Police, and the special interaction of the park preservation project and the environmental education of the community;
Space for the recovery and release of captured animals, and the care of the aforementioned by other professionals (biologists and vets).
